Position Summary:
Responsible providing excellent and safe CPR and First Aid instruction, motivation, and support to YMCA staff members and other class participants.

Essential Functions:
- Leads CPR and/or related classes following YMCA standards and guidelines.
- Communicates at participants’ comprehension level.
- Trains participants in a manner that is both demonstrative and professional.
- Arrives 10 to 15 minutes prior to class starting to start assigned duties.
- Communicates with appropriate Y personal to schedule classes and arrange for proper space within the branch location.
- Sets up and teardown class equipment
- Sanitizes equipment and checks for any equipment safety hazards, failures, damage, etc. after each class.
- Begins and ends every class on time.
- Takes attendance of class each time class is held.
- Ensures participants are registered appropriately.
- Teaches entire session of classes and will find a substitute for absences when needed.
- Assist other instructors with substitutions in class when needed.
- Is courteous and gives sincere attention to members by answering questions and providing positive and regular feedback to program participants.
- Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Knows the names of participants and uses their names when speaking with them.
- Completes incident and accident reports as required.
- Increases member and program participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
- Responsible for the maintenance of equipment at branch locations.
- Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
- Communicates any suggestions to improve the CPR instruction programs.
- Follows membership retention practices of the branch.
- Maintains all current fitness and CPR certifications.
- Maintains appropriate records.
- Attends designated trainings and staff meetings.
- Actively participates on the Annual Campaign as assigned.
- Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.
- Carries out other duties as assigned by the director.
- High school diploma or GED required. A 2-year college degree in Nursing/Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
- Trained American Heart Association BLS Instructor with current provider cards required.
- 1 year previous instructor experience.
