C.O.R.E. Strength… What’s the Big Deal?

If you are like most people, the first thing you think of when you hear core strength is strong ab muscles. It’s true – abdominal muscles are a part of the core, but your core also includes other muscles in your hips and back. A healthy core benefits your overall health and wellness… And it’s more than just a six pack.

So, what’s the big deal about C.O.R.E. strength?

Care for your whole body. Your core muscles support movements throughout your entire body. Some of the basic things you do each day, like bending to pet your dog or reaching into a kitchen cabinet, start in your core. You unconsciously engage your core muscles many times each day. The impact of a strong core affects more than just your midsection.

Optimize performance. Want to improve your golf game? Ready to run faster? These activities are powered by a strong core. Healthy core muscles stabilize your body in a way that helps you perform to the best of your ability.

Reduce or prevent pain. Over 8 percent of adults experience persistent or chronic back pain – over 16 million people! Incorporating core exercises can alleviate or prevent some types of lower back pain. Simple exercises like 15-30 second planks strengthen abdominal muscles and provide stabilization to the spine. This could bring some welcomed relief to your lower back.

Enjoy life. Health and vitality enable you and me to enjoy activities like hiking in the woods or canoeing on the river. Strengthening your core isn’t just about looking good at the pool this summer; you will feel empowered to enjoy activities with your family and friends.
