Red Velvet Hot Chocolate & Finger Cookie Dippers

It’s so hard to believe that Halloween and the fall season are already upon us. As the little monsters, princesses, and superheroes prepare their costumes, special snacks are always part of the plan. This combo, a hot chocolate with a red velvet flavor twist alongside finger cookies that are even better dipped, will kick off the evening with some added creepy fun. And the best part, the entire thing can be made ahead of time. Just store the hot chocolate in the refrigerator and reheat when ready to serve and keep the cookies covered and safely out of reach of the other little fingers in your house.

Finger Cookie Dippers

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 17.5 Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c blanched slivered almonds
  • 1 c strawberry jam
  • Few drops of red food coloring

WHAT YOU DO

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • Add cookie mix and egg to a bowl and mix with a fork until a sand-like texture is achieved.
  • Squeeze handfuls of dough together, forming long thin “fingers” and score the tops with a butter knife or toothpick to create knuckles.
  • Add a slivered almond to each and gently press in to form the fingernails, then refrigerate for ½ hour.
  • Bake 15 minutes and cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • When ready, mix jam and food coloring until desired color is achieved.
  • Trim the bases of the “fingers” with a fork to give them a severed look and then dip each into the jam.
