It’s Skyline Time – A Superbowl Dip Recipe

Homemade Cincinnati Chili Spaghetti

The biggest game of the year will be here soon, yes we’re talking the Superbowl! Like me, you may already be thinking about how to get in the game, the food game that is. Our house takes these Sunday snacks seriously and apparently so does most of the country. You can actually locate articles all over the internet detailing Superbowl party food rankings for every single state. There seems to be a lot of ideas tossed, a few fumbles along the way, and of course some major touchdown wins.

While you can find some of the top recipes at 15 Food Ideas for Your Super Bowl Party (allrecipes.com), I have always been a hometown fan. The Bengals are celebrated in our house, win or lose, so here’s a recipe based on a business close by in Cincinnati, Ohio. You’ve heard the commercial jingle … “it’s Skyline time…” and this one has been turned into a dip that’s really worth diving into.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ c diced onion
    • OPTIONAL: You can punt here and include some diced jalapenos or green chilis, kidney beans and/or black olives.
  • 10.5 oz can Skyline chili
  • 8-12 oz finely shredded cheddar (depends on how cheesy you are feeling 😊)
  • Tortilla chips, Fritos corn chips, or other favorite dippers … even celery is tasty in this one

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of a casserole dish.
    • A pie pan or an 8 x 8 square work well but you can double the recipe (you won’t be disappointed with that decision) and use a 9 x 13 dish for a larger crowd.
  • Sprinkle diced onion over top.
  • Pout chili evenly across onions.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, until bubbly.
  • Top with cheese and bake an additional 5-7 minutes, until melted.
  • Serve warm with dippers.

Now, I am warning you …. These Superbowl foods do come with some added weight so if you’re still working on the New Year/New You motto and have your eyes on the goal line, check out the variety of options at Fitness Classes | YMCA of Greater Dayton (daytonymca.org). In the meantime, just remember that a Superbowl party without some of these tasty treats is like Tom Brady without rings.
