Move 2 Lose

“There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work toward the same goals.” – Idowu Koyenika

Life is meant to be lived in community. When we have good people around us, we are more likely to feel encouraged, happy, and loved. I couldn’t survive without my friends and family. I need support from people who know the real me, encourage me when I’m struggling, and are there to celebrate the wins and successes in my life.

And the same goes for my goals. When I share my goals with others, they can keep me accountable, encourage me to keep going and remind me to give myself grace when I’m too hard on myself. This is especially true for my health and fitness. I’m not naturally self-motivated to work out. Sometimes I need some extra encouragement or the nudge of a friend to get it done. I’ve had many different workout buddies over the years, and I’m always more likely to get to the gym if I know someone is expecting me and anticipating a workout with me. And it’s always more fun with a friend along for the ride!

This same concept is why programs like the Y’s Move2Lose are such a success! Move 2 Lose is done in a group, with a certified trainer twice a week for ten weeks. Nutrition tips, explanations, and take-home exercises are provided during the program. Not to mention the incredible support of others pursuing the same goal! At the end of the ten weeks, prizes are given to those who have lost the most weight across the Dayton Y association. What a great motivation to stick to your goals!

Allowing others to see our vulnerable places, where we’re struggling, and what we’re striving for encourages them to be honest about their struggles and goals. If you know someone is pursuing the same goal, you feel less alone, less discouraged, and more likely to stick to your pursuit.

So join a Move2Lose group today, and join others in the same health and fitness goals! It’s always a good time, and you’ll not only end up with new fitness techniques, a t-shirt, and nutrition tips, but maybe you’ll also end up with some new friends!
