The YMCA of Greater Dayton is proud to announce plans to reopen the Versailles YMCA in late 2025, marking a new chapter of community health, wellness, and connection in the heart of Darke County.

After the Versailles YMCA closed in August 2025 due to financial hardship, community members refused to let their local Y disappear. The Save the Versailles Y Committee, working closely with the Ohio YMCA Alliance, rallied to preserve the facility and find a strong partner to ensure its long-term success.

Through a lease and operating agreement with the Save the Y Committee, the YMCA of Greater Dayton will assume operations of the Versailles YMCA, combining local leadership and community involvement with the operational excellence and resources of a larger, regional YMCA association.

“The YMCA of Greater Dayton exists to strengthen the foundations of community,” said Dale Brunner, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton. “We’re honored to partner with the community of Versailles to bring back this essential space for families, youth, and individuals of all ages to connect, grow, and thrive.”

Investing in the Future of Versailles

As part of the reopening, the facility will undergo major renovations, including new equipment, HVAC and roof replacements, parking lot improvements, and fresh updates throughout. The Y will also hire a new team of dedicated staff, expand program offerings, and introduce access to the YMCA’s virtual platform, providing health and wellness opportunities both in-person and online.

The Versailles YMCA will remain locally guided through a new community advisory board comprised of residents and leaders from the Versailles area. This board will work alongside the YMCA of Greater Dayton to ensure that the branch continues to meet the unique needs of the community it serves. Page 2

A Legacy of Local Support

Versailles residents have a deep, decades-long connection to their Y — one built on family memories, youth programs, and a shared commitment to community health. Through grassroots efforts, the Save the Y Committee continues to raise funds toward the facility’s $2 million revitalization goal, ensuring the YMCA will thrive for generations to come.

“This reopening is the result of community determination and collaboration,” said Kim Hecht, a founding member of the Save the Y Committee. “By joining forces with the YMCA of Greater Dayton, we’re not just reopening a building — we’re reigniting a sense of belonging and opportunity for Versailles.”

Looking Ahead

When doors reopen in late 2025, Versailles members will gain access to all 13 YMCA of Greater Dayton locations and enjoy nationwide reciprocity across thousands of YMCAs throughout the U.S.
