Together, we can save more than a building — we can preserve a legacy of belonging, health, and connection for generations to come.
For over 30 years, the Versailles YMCA has been more than just a gym — it’s been a gathering place for families, a safe haven for kids, and a wellness hub for seniors. From swim teams and youth sports to fitness classes and lifelong friendships, the Y has shaped lives and strengthened our community.
But without your support, the story could end here.
In August 2025, the YMCA of Darke County announced the permanent closure of the Versailles Y due to financial hardship, along with their intent to sell the building. Local residents immediately stepped up to form the Save the Versailles Y Committee — a passionate group committed to purchasing and revitalizing the facility.
The facility will be owned by a local non-profit trust and have an advisory board made up of local community leaders.
The YMCA of Greater Dayton will take over day-to-day operations, ensuring proven expertise while preserving local control.
A renewed focus on community partnerships will help the Y serve as a hub for athletic, social, and faith-based groups across the Versailles area.
“My children participated in swim team, youth sports, and gymnastics—and later worked as lifeguards. The Y gave them a safe place to grow, while also giving me a chance to connect with other parents.
Every dollar counts. Your gift helps ensure that families and future generations can access life-changing programs at the Versailles YMCA. To reopen the doors and make the Y thrive again, we need to raise $2 million:
| Project | Cost |
|---|---|
| Purchase the facility | $800,000 |
| Replace outdated fitness equipment | $200,000 |
| New roof | $150,000 |
| HVAC (including pool & gym air systems) | $500,000 |
| Parking lot resurfacing | $190,000 |
| Windows, doors, and safety upgrades | $135,000 |
| Paint, cleaning & general maintenance | $50,000 |
“After losing my husband, the Y became my routine and my refuge. From pickleball to water aerobics, it helped me stay connected, active, and hopeful.”
