YMCA of Greater Dayton Offers Free November Memberships for Furloughed Federal Workers
The YMCA of Greater Dayton announced today that it will offer one month of free membership from November 4th–30th to any federal employee or contractor furloughed as a result of the ongoing government shutdown.
The offer applies to all 12 YMCA of Greater Dayton branches and the Springfield YMCA, providing affected individuals and families access to wellness programs, fitness facilities, group classes, and community connection during this uncertain time.
“When our community is struggling, the Y steps up,” said Dale Brunner, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton. “We know this shutdown is creating real stress for families across the Miami Valley, especially for those connected to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and other federal agencies. We want the Y to be a place of relief, routine, and belonging — a place where people can take care of themselves and feel supported.”
How It Works
Starting November 4th, Furloughed federal employees and contractors can visit any of the 12 YMCA of Greater Dayton locations or the Springfield YMCA location and show documentation of their furlough status — such as an official furlough notice, recent pay stub showing $0 pay, an email from their employer, or a valid federal employee ID.
Upon verification, individuals will receive a complimentary membership for them and their family valid through November 30, 2025 for them and their family.
“Our mission is to strengthen spirit, mind, and body for all,” said Brunner. “This initiative is one small way we can strengthen our community during a challenging time.”
More Than a Gym
The YMCA of Greater Dayton is more than a place to work out — it’s a community hub where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve their health and build connections. By providing free access to fitness and wellness opportunities, the Y hopes to help furloughed workers manage stress, maintain routines, and stay connected to a caring community.
