Laid off workers find support, place to talk

SPRINGBORO — Roy Dyer has worked in sales most of his life.

Forty years of experience has taught him that he's got a better chance of closing a deal if he can just get in front of someone.

These days, that someone is a job interviewer. But in this severe economic recession, the Springboro man hasn't been able to secure one interview in the month since he was laid off from Dayton Supply & Tool Co.

The Kleptz YMCA in Englewood will begin hosting and sponsoring a weekly Support Group for individuals in the community who are presently searching for a job.

The YMCA has recognized the need to provide support for individuals who have been personally affected by the increased loss of employment in the Greater Dayton Region.

Strong kids have star power is the theme of this year’s scholarship campaign at the Xenia YMCA. In 2008, the YMCA of Greater Dayton provided financial assistance for many community families. The requests increase, as does the need for funds to provide these services. Your donations to the Xenia YMCA will go to helping those in need in Xenia. The donations are divided between membership, aquatics, youth sports, child care and youth programs.

An e-mail came across my desk recently stating that there was an employee at the Trotwood YMCA who had been employed for 54 years - yes, that is correct, 54 years!

Upon further investigation it was discovered that this employee's name is Pauline Moore and she was born in 1935.
