YMCA RECEIVES GRANT FUNDING FROM THE VECTREN FOUNDATION FOR SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS

Vectren pledges to help close the Achievement Gap in Dayton

Miami Valley – 03/21/18 – Third-grade reading skills predict high school graduation. That’s why the Y’s Summer Learning Loss Prevention program
helps elementary students reading below grade level. The program focuses on phonics, writing, and reading to boost literacy skills, with enrichment activities to support physical and social-emotional growth.

Summer-Learning-Loss

The Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program, run by the YMCA’s Debbie Nerderman, is helping kids who would otherwise be left behind during the
summer by providing opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and thrive at the Y—and The Vectren Foundation’s donation is allowing the program to develop even further.

Not only do children and teens have a safe place to go in the afternoon with the Y, but the after-school programs also help them realize who they are and all they can achieve through academic intervention and health and enrichment activities.

This program is now being funded in part by a grant from the Vectren Foundation.

The Vectren Foundation strives to become a community catalyst in the communities where we live and work, leveraging everyday opportunities to achieve extraordinary outcomes. The Vectren Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization funded by non-utility related transactions and is not an element
of customers’ energy bills. Go to vectrenfoundation.org to learn more.
