U.S. Parents Not Making Kids Health Top Priority

April 14, 2011Despite growing rates of childhood obesity and chronic illness among kids in the U.S., only 15 percent of American parents rank overall physical health as the top concern for their children, according to national survey findings released recently by YMCA of the USA. The YMCAs Family Health Snapshot also found that 74 percent of children ages 5 to 10 do not get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day.

[Dayton, OH 04/04/11] In the month of April, the YMCA of Greater Dayton is encouraging all kids and parents in Greater Dayton area to come to the Y for a play date and commit to being active every day. Its all part of the YMCAs Healthy Kids Day the nations largest health day for families. The FREE event will take place at all our Y branches and offer fun games, snacks, giveaways and much more for kids and their families. -

Pam Sunderland received award of appreciation[Dayton, OH 04/01/11] Pam Sunderland was awarded the Huber Heights YMCA volunteer of the year. Pam has served on the Huber Heights YMCA board since 2005 as a member of the inaugural class. From 2005 to 2007 Pam served as the first Board Chair of the Huber Heights YMCA. Throughout her tenure, Pam has been an integral member of our board bringing knowledge and balance that helps keep our group focused on the objectives at hand.
