VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - Sometimes the simplest of tasks are difficult for Carol Ayala of Vandalia. Carol is waiting for a kidney transplant. She's been on dialysis for three years but through it all, by her side has been her daughter, seventh grader Shakiyla.

ENGLEWOOD — Drop in at the Kleptz YMCA in Englewood, and it’s clear that racial segregation is fading in the Dayton metropolitan area.

Officials at the Y say they’ve attracted more racial and ethnic minority members than ever before as more middle-class blacks, Hispanics and others move into the predominantly white suburb.

BEAVERCREEK — She’s the woman who put the skirt — a little red mini-skirt, to be exact — on local running.

But before that happened — like any person with a sense of fashion or fitness — Millie Bolton worked on her legs.

Back in the mid 1960s, she would regularly take her four children to the Xenia YMCA for swimming lessons.

Camp Kern expands Ozone Zip Lines over Little Miami

TURTLECREEK TWP, Ohio - The YMCA's Camp Kern in Warren County's Turtlecreek Township says it now plans on expanding its zip line attraction to take visitors over 200 feet above the Little Miami River.

In a joint project between Camp Kern, the Ohio Historical Society and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the current Ozone Zip Lines running over the camp will be expanded this fall with two new 1,500 feet zip lines.

From babies to the senior set, Randy Paulin said there's no place better than the YMCA.

"The Y offers so much," Paulin, executive director of the South Y in Kettering, said. "We have child care for six weeks (old babies) all the way up to preschool, then we have school-age childcare, also.

South YMCA to host ‘Parents Nights Out’

Believe it or not, the holiday season is rapidly approaching and to help parents get a jump on shopping the South YMCA will be hosting several Parents Night Out events here at the South branch in Kettering.

Costume contest, crafts, swimming, movies and gym play will entertain you kids in the safety of the Y while you go out and get a head start on your shopping or just enjoy a quiet dinner with your spouse.
