by Aneceya RiceDAYTON -- The YMCA of Greater Dayton received a grant from YMCA of the USA, in partnership with CVS Health, to expand access to the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program to underserved people in the Trotwood area.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a group-based lifestyle intervention for adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes and has been shown to reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58 percent overall and by 71 percent in adults over 60.

Large multi-purpose center planned for Xenia

Officials with The NDC Trotwood YMCA said a financial donation from an anonymous donor will help keep the city’s pool open.
Gayle Horton, the YMCA’s executive director for Community Development, said without the $40,000 donation, the city’s pool, which is located on the campus of the United Theological Seminary att 4501 Denlinger Road, would have closed.
The donation is coming from the deceased donor’s estate.

Large donation keeps Trotwood community pool open

A community pool consistently on the chopping block will remain open after an anonymous donation.
The YMCA of Greater Dayton was able to secure a $40,000 donation to help Trotwood and the YMCA keep the pool despite financial difficulties running and operating the pool.
“We were shocked,” said Gayle Horton, Community Executive Director for the YMCA of Greater Dayton. “This donor had given us money in the past in certain amounts. We had met about a month ago and they assured us of the gift.”

Huber Heights aquatic center nets $18K profit

By Steven Matthews - Staff WriterFor the first time since its opening season in 2012, the Kroger Aquatic Center at The Heights generated a profit, according to preliminary numbers released by the city of Huber Heights.
The pool had a net profit this year of $17,879 after losing a combined $98,447 the last two years — $63,719 last year and $34,728 in 2013.

Local kids get moving at Day Camp Olympics

by Allison HammondA local version of the Olympic Games sprinted into the Miami Valley on Thursday.
About 500 children attended the 10th annual Day Camp Olympics at the University of Dayton. They came from all across Montgomery County from various YMCA day camp sites.
“We just want kids to be active and have fun, meet new people and learn new things,” said Gayle Horton, Executive Director of Community Development.
Children went to 13 stations, including bucket brigade, football pass and track and field events.
